Getting to Camp: Birchip is located on Sunraysia Highway at southern edge of the Mallee. (171km N/W of Bendigo, 120 km N/E of Horsham, 113km S/W of Swan Hill)
Breakfast: From 6.30 am
Muster: 7:15 am
Volunteering: Must be at Camp by 7:00 am – Ready to leave for work after Muster
Camp Details: Teams are made up each afternoon for the following day so it’s imperative that we know you’re coming. Volunteers will be formed into teams and travel to their allocated property, usually in the one vehicle. Works sites are very open with little shelter. ALL volunteers must attend a morning muster at the basecamp prior to traveling to a property.
Accommodation: There is room for caravans, tents/swags at the oval, however we cannot guarantee power. There is access to water but no individual water connection points to vans. Outdoor toilets 24 hr access & adjoining Dump Point. Rostered access to showers /toilets indoors, shared with community sports groups. At this stage, there is no accommodation available for those without their own sleeping accommodation, e.g. caravan/motor home, but we are working on it.
Meals: All meals will be provided. Anyone with special dietary requirements may need to provide their own meals. Recommend volunteers have a personal supply of Electrolyte supplements.
Other Details: Prior to arriving, we would appreciate a call a day or so beforehand so we can place you into a team and allow for catering purposes. We need to know beforehand that you are coming.
Our insurance covers all volunteers over the age of 12 years. Children must be in the company of a parent at all times. ** Please ensure your tetanus vaccination is up to date and that you are covered for Ambulance transport.**
We will provide Personal Protective Equipment however, it you have some good work gloves, we would appreciate it if you brought them with you.
If you are volunteering for a day at a time then returning home, you MUST be at our basecamp no later than 7:00am each morning.
Dogs. There is nothing to prevent you from bringing your dog however the property owner might not allow you to take it out to the property. All dogs must be kept under control and on a leash at all times and will not be allowed near any food preparation/serving area.
What To Bring: A good hat, sensible footwear (no joggers), long-sleeved shirt, sunglasses a pair of wire cutters if you have some, and a willingness to be a team player. (The worksites are open paddocks with little or no shade)
Swimwear as Birchip Outdoor Swimming pool is open, 3pm – 7pm. Entry Free.
